GROUNDBREAKING NEWS!

Preschoolers at the Trinity Conception Resource Centre are so excited that we are getting a new playground that they can’t stop hopping! So to help, they held a “Hop-a-thon” today in aid of the playground. Full of excitement and energy, approximately 20 little darlings hopped around the gymnasium with smiles from ear to ear. At the end of the session, Kim Oates presented Cathy Reid with the money they had collected. With jaw dropped, Ms. Reid accepted $1058.85! AWESOME!!! It goes to show that it dosen't matter how small you are, you CAN make a difference! Thank you to all the families involved. We could never do it without the support of people and groups like you.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Design Receives Rave Reviews!!!

Our "Initial Design" got rave reviews from our young designers today. After an announcement was made on the P.A., the library door was bombarded with interested and enthusiastic students. Both primary and elementary students were seen smiling and ...pointing and saying..."I picked that!!!" "Thats what I voted for!!!" The smiles as they walked away were confirmation that the people of our communities are doing great things! We are making a difference that goes far beyond what we could ever think or imagine. Awesome! Some students even came back again and again to study the design. They were SOOOO excited!!!

Thank you young designers!!!

Green's Harbour/Hopeall Fire Dept Help Make a Difference

The Green’s Hr-Hopeall Fire Department held a Toll Gate on Sunday May 20th in aid of the playground. They were willing to give of their time on the long weekend for the sake of our kids. The support was outstanding…a total of $2500 was taken in which means when matched by Let Them Be Kids will be $5000! WOW! Thank you to everyone who donated! Your generosity will make a huge impact in our communities!

PENNIES FOR THE PLAYGROUND

Students are excitedly bringing in bags and containers full of coins! That’s right; the 'penny' container has loonies, toonies, nickels and dimes! Thank you so much!

Keep in mind that the Green's Harbour Building Committee will be hosting a Penny Drive/Canadian Tire Money Drive on July 28th at the Greens Hr Lions Centre. Breakfast will also be available that morning at a low cost for anyone interested. The money from the Breakfast will also go towards the playground. So…save your pennies, round up your Canadian Tire Money and prepare for the biggest Penny Drive ever!

Helping to build our playground.

Get off the bus...and head for the penny container
right away! No time to take off your coat.

Our pre-school children are helping us too!

Farewell Old Swings

Well, the old yellow swings were taken down this past week. They provided many moments of laughter and fun. Thank you to the people who helped put them there many years ago.  Lots of childhood memories for sure....but with the future of our new playground being so bright, we can't help but be excited!!! Great things are happening! We hope you are going to be a part of it!
Our vision is expanding and we see this space
as a possible location for an outdoor classroom.

Acreman - "That was my School!"

There is something to be said of the Acreman Elementary Spirit…anyone who ever attended Acreman will remember those early childhood school years and smile. There is a connection that exists between all who attended from the year it opened until now. That is where the idea of reaching all former students originated from. The idea was that if every former student and staff gave just $5, we would be that much closer to our goal. To reach out to former students, a Facebook Group, “Acreman Elementary – That Was My School,” was created. With 1030 members and donations of $760 to date, we are convinced that the spirit lives on. Thank you to everyone who has donated. Your gifts will make a huge impact!

If your adult children attended Acreman, please let them know about this initiative. We realize that facebook reaches some but not all, so please help us spread the word. Help us rekindle that good ol' Acreman Spirit!!!

Our Young Playground Designers!

Students and Pre-schoolers at Acreman were very pleased to be presented with Certificates of Appreciation for helping design the playground. Their votes on Dot-mocracy Day will be used to help create a design. It is proof that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can help make a difference! Way to go!

Keep checking back for the design image which will be posted soon!

Dot-mocracy Day!

Friday, May 4th was an exciting day at Acreman Elementary School! Students waited in anticipation for the moment when they finally got to cast their vote! Each class rotated around various stations completing activities that encouraged them to reflect and think about the playground and the Let Them Be Kids Award. They drew and colored posters showing what they thought "Build Day" would like, they did a writing activity describing what the playground meant to them personally, and they cut out handprints which colorfully displayed what they were thankful for. They did physical activities in the gym to promote health and wellness and they sang songs during music time. The most popular station of the day, of course, was the Dot-macracy Event! Students eagerly entered the library and after much thought, placed their 3 stickers on the playground elements of their choice. Students were overheard saying, "I picked that because my little cousin would like it," and "I picked that one because more people can use it." It was great to see them thinking of others and taking their responsibility as voters so serious. Thank you students for designing our new playground!
